BIPOC - Black Voter Engagement

We decided to make one of our main voter engagement campaigns surrounding the Black voice. In Appalachia there is a false and white supremacist narrative that People of Color are simply not around. Our campaign is covering the two northern counties of Appalachian Ohio, Jefferson, and Columbiana. In the three towns/cities we will be working in, each has a Black population that is over 10% and some as high as 20%.

Our strategy is multi-focused. In early 2024, we plan to kick off the voter engagement campaign with an event at a participating barbershop in Steubenville, Ohio. With every one of these events, we will be registering people to vote and checking current registrations.

New strict voting ID laws, extreme gerrymandering, limited absentee voting, and the plotting to end voter approved progressive issues has led Ohio to be a difficult place for non-partisan democracy. We must meet people where they are to build power.
