Executive Director

Daniel Winston (He/Him)

Daniel is a community activist, political leader, father, and lifelong resident of the Appalachian Ohio River Valley. He sits on many committees and boards in the Ohio Valley including being the President of our local United Way. Daniel seeks to empower the Black community through civic engagement and networking. He has worked with national, state, and local politicians and organizations to see the Valley empowered into a more sustainable future.

Emily Wright (She/Her)

Emily is a nurse of 20 years with experience in multiple areas of healthcare. She is a community activist who has a background in amaeutr writing, community organizing, administration, and employee/project management. Her desire is to see an increase in Appalachian healthcare access and local progressive change. She was born and spent most of her life in the Ohio Valley.

Youth and Environmental Lead Organizer

Spencer Mattern (They/Them)

Spencer is a lifetime resident of the Appalachian Ohio River Valley. Their vision is to organize our youth around their shared desire for a safer future with civic engagement being at the forefront. Spencer also wants to bring more LGBTQIA+ voices to the youth environmental movement.

Director of Communications / LGBTQIA+ Organizer

Justin Garner (He/Him/They/Them)

Justin is a LGBTQIA+ organizer and communications professional. He is bringing his expertise, artistic expression, and organizational skills to see increased rights and safety for queer community members. He is an integral member of the Ohio Valley community.

Black Power / Voter Engagement Lead Organizer

Joaquin Johnson (He/Him)

Joaquin is a longtime resident of the Appalachian Ohio River Valley. His vision is to see Black businesses thrive and the Black voter’s voice amplified in the Valley. He has been organizing his community for the last two years and is excited to bring his campaign to Impact Appalachia.
